Winter Pedicure Ideas ~ Give your feet some love!

Just because no one sees your toes during the wintertime doesn’t mean you should stop getting pedicures done. During the winter calluses still build up on your heels, your skin on your legs just gets drier and flaky and untouchable. Just because you have your feet in boots all day shouldn’t stop you from getting a pedicure done. And besides its always feel good to have someone else take care of your feet after a long hard work day. You don’t have to get your toes painted either.
Those that are at the dating age, you don’t want your new date seeing you in your hot little black dress with flaky dry legs do you? And besides unless you live somewhere that has snow, a hot little black dress or really dress of any color almost demands that you wear open toed shoes with sexy nail polish painted toes. If you are a fashion forward person you already know that some of the hottest boots this year are open toed. Why not show off your sense of style with trendy nail polish in purples or blues?
Just because the economy is down doesn’t mean you should stop from treating yourself to the relaxing experience of getting a pedicure done. Specially if you are pregnant. Talk to your doctor to be sure she is ok with getting a pedicure done. If so it’s a very delightful experience for those who’s feet are sore and swelled up.
And if you think about it, its easier to keep getting pedicures done instead of waiting till spring and really having calluses built up and having ugly feet. Why not do your own pedicure to save money? Don’t forget to buy the best BB nail polish colors out there right now! Even better why not get your friends together and have a pedicure spa party? Saving time, money and nail polish by sharing with your closest friends. You can also get manicure/pedicure gift sets for yourself and friends as holiday gifts, then get together and show each other how to use them! Who doesn’t love a gift that can be used all year round? You could even have a nail polish swapping party while doing each other’s toes. That way you get to try trendy new nail polish colors without having to buy them all.
Now if you can’t afford to get a pedicure done but still want that relaxing experience here are a few tips to do it yourself.
Did you know that a footbath can be just relaxing or stimulating as a full body bath can be?

Start off by filling a large basin with warm water for a long foot soak. Add some rosewater or essential oils for a true deep relaxation as well as soften calluses and corns. The more cracked and calloused your feet, the longer they need to stay in.

Remove the any old polish from your nails before starting to soak them. There are some wonderful foot soaks out there, but something as basic as dead sea salts works great. Clean under the toenail and then clip. It's best to use high quality clippers made for clipping toenails. To avoid ingrown nails, cut nail straight across, leaving about 1/8" of length. Make sure your nail doesn't extend over the tip of your toe. If it does you find that it can be painful when wearing shoes all day.
To create a soft square shape, file nail around the corners slightly using a emery board in one direction.

Rub cuticle remover to the base of each nail and rub it in. Leave on for a minute, then use an orange stick to gently push with a circular motion everywhere where skin meets the nail (including the sides). Unless you really know what you are doing, its better not to trim your cuticles. Leave that to the professionals.

Using a organic loofah remove the dead skin from soles of feet, zeroing in on heels and balls of feet. Natural pumice stone also can help remove calluses and dry spots. You'll want to scrub the balls, bottoms and sides of your heels and around the toes.

Massage a natural exfoliating cream into the skin, rubbing it all the way up the calves. Something as simple as a tablespoon of salt or sugar and extra-virgin olive oil plus 5 drops essential oil of peppermint works great for this. Rinse off, and dry feet thoroughly including between the toes and then apply a moisturizing lotion especially made for feet.

Re-hydrate cuticles by applying BB Couture cuticle oil around the base of your toe nails. Wait 2 to 3 minutes. Then use nail polish remover to get rid of any excess oils on your toe nails (including the cuticle oil you just applied). You can stop here or more on to the last step.

Apply a base coat to fortify and protect the nails. Wait a minute or so between applying two coats of your favorite polish, then finish with a clear protective Top Rock top coat. Clean up any errors with an orange stick wrapped in cotton and dipped in nail polish remover.

Have a pedicure spa party with friends can really be a great idea because you can take the time to paint each other’s toes. Instead of painting your toes, you can buff them to a nice shine. You don’t always have to paint your toes if you don’t want to.

Just because its winter doesn’t mean you stop caring for your feet and toes. Take care of your feet and they will keep on carrying you happily each and every day!
